The 4.5 gallon casks have arrived at Barley Bottom and are selling well. Coupled with a beer engine and check valve they make a perfect real ale set up at home. These casks are heavy duty plastic which will last many years.
I think we're all hoping for some summer sun in August so very shortly we'll be stocking lager hops and lager yeast to accompany the lager malt we currently sell.
This month we'll be reorganising the website a little to make it easier to navigate and find the products you're looking for - mainly due to the expansion in the number of products we're now stocking. We're always open to suggestions about new products you'd like to see on the website so either reply to this email or use the form on the website.
Lastly, we're looking at publishing a guide for AG first-timers to read about using the AG kits we provide. Covering equipment, techniques, ingredients and links to further resources. Check the website soon for more details.
A straw coloured 4.6% best bitter. Bittered with Northdown, flavoured with First Gold and finished off with Crystal. As ever these kits include all you need to brew 5 gallons of quality beer (except water!): malts, hops, copper finings and yeast. Click for further recipe details.
Stats: OG: 1.045 - FG: 1.010 - ABV: 4.6% - Bitterness: 31 IBU - Colour: 9.3 SRM
Hops: EKGs are still proving to be a popular summer hop with their light & floral characteristics.
Yeast: We'll be stocking more lager ingredients shortly including a lager yeast so as long as the weather improves, this is likely to prove a popular one.
Malts: Sadly lager malt has seen a dip this month after last month's peak, making way for an increase in Munich malt.
Other Stats: Barley Bottom now stocks nearly 100 products. We've come a long way since 2007 when our stock list was just 6 hops, 8 malts and protofloc tablets!
